Clara was interviewed for the Korean magazine, Moms Career, fall 2024 edition.
“Don’t just focus on your goals, but enjoy the excitement and happiness in the process and walk your own path”.
[MomsCareer = Ahn Sun-young, U.S. Correspondent] Clara Kim immigrated to Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, 14 years ago and started her career as an artist as a teacher at the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) and as a Language Level Tester for the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 10 years ago, he has been devoting himself to the world of art as a full-time artist, and enjoys various creative works such as interior design and fashion design as hobbies. Thanks to my good fortune, I held a solo exhibition at the Canadian Council 8 years ago, and I have been holding 2~3 solo exhibitions at the gallery every year. She has received curatorial grants from the Canada Art Council and the Ottawa Art Council, and has been promoting her work in a variety of media including TV, radio, magazines, and newspapers. Recently, she was selected as the cover model for Ottawa Life Magazine, a special issue of professional women in Canada, which further spurred her work as a writer.

Ottawa artist Clara Kim was born and raised in South Korea, where the loss of her mother at the age of 8 left her reeling. She lost her voice for 8 months. That time was when animals blunted her grief and became her closest friends, she says.
Ottawa artist Clara Kim was born and raised in South Korea, where the loss of her mother at the age of 8 left her reeling. She lost her voice for 8 months. That time was when animals blunted her grief and became her closest friends, she says.
“My Dad helped me in a beautiful way by teaching me about animals and how to play with them and build friendships with them,” she said in an interview with Ottawa Life in 2023. Now, her paintings interpret animals of every type.
Her works are done by knife rather than a brush, drawing heavily on the oriental style, but creating a unique style unlike any other. She leverages a “scratching” technique on the paint, emulating the texture of ramie and hemp cloth, which Korean ancestors wore as summer clothes.

Government of Ontario Art Collection 2021
June 11, 2021
I am very honoured to be part of the Government of Ontario 2021 Art Collection.
In regards to the painting:
People often think that frogs are vulnerable, and roosters love dining on frogs. Therefore, I gave the frog a red color to turn it into a poisonous frog, a fact the bird is aware well of. At first glance, it may appear the rooster is readying to step on the frog. But the ironic truth of the situation is that the rooster is the one who is afraid, not the frog. This simple image serves as a reflection of our own society, that looks can be deceiving. The dignified appearance of a frog who stays stoic in the face of its larger adversary, draws a parallel between their lives and our own.
